Obituary for Nancy Glaspie Foss

Nancy Glaspie Foss, age 77, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Monday, January 8, 2018, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born September 4, 1940, in Shreveport, Louisiana, the daughter of Julian “Jelly” Elmo and Elva “Pene” (Barnhill) Glaspie.

Nancy grew up in Mansfield, Louisiana, and graduated as the valedictorian in her class in 1957. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from McNeese State University and her Master’s Degree in Music from Louisiana State University. Nancy was a Music Associate Professor at LSU. She married George Dueward Foss in 1989, in Heber Springs, Arkansas. They moved to Greer’s Ferry, Arkansas, in 1989, and in August 2016, she moved to Ulysses, Kansas. Nancy had a passion for music. She was the principal keyboardist for the Baton Rouge Symphony, and played the organ for mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. George Catholic Church, and St. Pius X Catholic Church. She loved animals, reading, and was a gourmet cook. Nancy was a member of Master Gardeners and enjoyed gardening, and growing flowers and herbs.

She is survived by her son, Forrest Saxon of Ulysses, Kansas; and three grandchildren, Ashley, Hannah and Julian.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, George in 2002.

Rosary service will be Thursday, January 11, 2018, at 9:15 AM and funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend James Baker officiating. Cremation will follow service. Friends may call Wednesday, January 10, 2018, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to Heber Springs, Arkansas Humane Society in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
