Obituary for Fred E. Muffitt


Dighton- Fred E. Muffitt, 78, died on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at his home in Lane County. He was born on November 29, 1939 at Garden City the son of Clyde Earl & Bessie Mae (Schaben) Muffitt. He married Peggy A. Garton on March 4, 1959 at Dighton.

Fred grew up in Finney County and attended Garden City Schools. He served in the Army National Guard for 10 years. After moving to Lane County he was a Farmer-Stockman and heavy equipment operator. He also worked for the Lane County Road Department for 31 years. He enjoyed hunting, especially guiding pheasant hunting trips, restoring old tractors, his dogs and bowling. Fred was an annual participant in the Utica Days Parade with his restored tractors and taught hunting safety courses for many years. He also was a member and past Chief of the Shields Fire Department and was a member of the Dighton Fire Department. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Dighton, I.O.O.F. Lodge of Dighton and the Rebekah Lodge.

He is survived by his Wife- Peggy Muffitt of the Home, Son- Fred Lee Muffitt of Phillips, Wisconsin, Daughter- Mattie & Kevin Duckworth of Liberal, 3 Grandchildren- Justin Emerson (Tiffany) of Saukville, Wisconsin, Dennille Borell (Steven Shull) of Utica & Sheridan Schaben (Shawn Woods) of Ness City & 5 Great-Grandchildren- Seth Emerson of Saukville, Wisconsin, Kane Emerson of Hartford, Wisconsin, Drake & Hudson Woods of Ness City & Aiden Shull of Utica. He was preceded in death by his Parents & 2 Daughters- Linda Schaben & Lolene Emerson.

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM Monday at the First Christian Church with Rev Aerii Smith officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery with military honors by the Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to the Lane County Fire Department in care of Boomhower Funeral Home. Calling hours are from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday and 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM Monday at Boomhower Funeral Home. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com
