Obituary for Roy "Barney" Martin Jr.

Dighton- Roy “Barney” Martin, Jr., 85, died on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was born on October 12, 1932 at Garden City the son of Roy Miles & Leah Elizabeth (Litzenberger) Martin, Sr.. He married Charlotte Chapman on January 6, 1957 at Clayton, New Mexico. She died on August 6, 2015.

Barney grew up in Finney County and attended Garden City schools and Dighton High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge he returned to the area and worked for area famers before going to work on the Road Maintenance Department for the Kansas Department Of Transportation. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 190 of Dighton. Barney enjoyed playing cribbage, dancing, working on demolition derby cars and fishing & hunting.

He is survived by 2 Daughters- DeAnna Dumler-Hayes of Wichita & Monica Kleymann of Sedgwick, Son- Rodney Earl Martin of Arnold, 2 Brothers- Virgil “Sonny” Martin & Darrell Martin both of Dighton, 2 Sisters- Edith Snyder of Park City & Betty Brungardt of Garden City, 6 Grandchildren & 10 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, Brother- Herman “Bud” Martin & 2 Sisters- Erma Martin & Marian Buell.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Monday at the United Methodist Church in Dighton with Rev. Berniece Ludlum officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post # 190. Memorials are suggested to Lane County Long Term Care in care of Boomhower Funeral Home.
