Obituary for Norma Jean Meier

Norma Jean Meier, 71, died Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Homestead Health & Rehabilitation Center in Garden City, Kansas. She was born on February 9, 1946 in Liberal, Kansas the daughter of Raymond and Elva (Hickey) Berry.
Mrs Meier, who was 71 and a longtime Garden City resident. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She worked in various jobs throughout her life and was very active in the community, serving in various functions throughout the years, including serving meals at her church, singing in different choirs, and cooking, cooking, and then cooking some more.
Surviving her are a son: Jeff Kirkland, Spring Tx; two grandchildren; Jason Kirkland, Spring Tx, and Megan Kirkland, Spring Tx; one brother and sister-in-law; William and Paula Berry, Shell Knob Missouri; one brother in law; John Menzie, Sublette Ks; nephew; Brad Menzie, Sublette Ks; three nieces; Teresa Sheridan, Lake Ozark Missouri, Debbie Collins, Kansas City Ks, and Pamela Williamson, Kansas City Ks. Also surviving are several great nephews and nieces.
Mrs Meier was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, June Menzie; 2 nieces Robin Grimes and Jennifer Menzie. She was also preceded by a husband Michael John Meier.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City with Rev. Joel Plisek officiating. Burial will follow at the Copeland Cemetery in Copeland, Kansas. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to the First United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
