Obituary for Cleo Marguerite Porter
Cleo Marguerite Porter, 99, died Saturday, January 20, 2018 at her home in Garden City. She was born August 11, 1918 in Logan, Kansas the daughter of Carl & Capitolia F. (Purvis) Locke.
Cleo grew up in Miltonvale, Kansas where she attended school. On February 5, 1942, she married James Leroy Porter in Salina, Kansas. They lived in Lincoln, Kansas and Salina, Kansas before moving to Garden City in 1982. They have lived in Garden City since. Cleo worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Harding Glass Co. in Garden City. She was previously a member of Pierceville Federated Church and later attended Bible Christian Church. Cleo enjoyed singing, sewing, and dancing.
Survivors include her caregivers Kathleen Stahlecker and her daughter Faith, and Jerome & Kristi Greene all of Garden City. Cleo is preceded in death by her husband Leroy who died on April 19, 2002. She is also preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Pastor Scott Rosen officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27 at the Lincoln City Cemetery in Lincoln, Kansas. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. to service time Friday all at Garnand Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials given to Bible Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
