Avelino Peter “Jay” Hernandez, Jr., 58, of Garden City, Kansas died Thursday, February 1, 2018 at his home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born May 11, 1959 in Garden City, Kansas the son of Avelino Peter Sr. & Josephine Gloria (Campos) Hernandez .
He Married Sue Ann Martinez on October 29, 1982 in Garden City, Kansas. She died January 11, 2013. He worked for Palmer Manufacturing for 13 years and most recently for Tyson. His hobbies included playing pool and working on cars. He loved being with his family, especially spending time with his grandkids.
Survivors include his children, Diane Hernandez (Hector Negrete) of Garden City, Kansas, Abraham Hernandez (Jennifer Valdez Hernandez) of Satanta, Kansas, Heather Hernandez (Daniel Cisneros) of Garden City, KS, Anthony Hernandez of Garden City, KS, & Emilio Hernandez of Garden City, KS; Sisters, Liz Ruiz (Lalo Ruiz) of Garden City, KS & Bridget Bricker (Dennis Bricker) of Indiana; Aunts, Rachel Lopez, Ruth Campos, Nevis Gallardo; Uncle, Jesus Ledesma all of Garden City;12 Grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter. In Addition to his wife, his parents, and a grandson- Daniel Cisneros Jr. preceded him in death.
A rosary will be held at Garnand Funeral Home on Saturday February 3, 2018 at 5:00 pm Garnand Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday February 5, 2018 at 10:30 am at St Mary Catholic Church of Garden City with Father Charles Seiwert as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm, Saturday February 3, 2018 & 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday February 4, 2018 Family request memorials given to the Avelino Hernandez Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N 7th Street, Garden City, KS 67846
