Obituary for Glenna Maurine Firner

Glenna Maurine Breitenbach Firner, 92, died Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune, Kansas. She was born Febraury 19, 1925 in Macksville, Kansas the daughter of Peter A. & Glenna F. (Noble) Breitenbach.
Maurine grew up and attended school in Belpre, Kansas. After graduating from high school in Belpre in 1942, she attended the University of Kansas where she studied music and voice. While attending KU, Maurine worked as a vocalist for WREN radio station in Lawrence. She later worked for Jenkin’s Music Co. in Kansas City. On June 8, 1947, she married Henry William “Bill” Firner in Lawrence, Kansas. They moved to a farm south of Towner, Colorado in 1948. In 1954, they moved to Tribune, Kansas and have lived there since. A homemaker, Maurine was a member of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church in Tribune, the VFW Auxiliary, a past President of DCCW, Sigma Kappa Sorority and served as social chairperson, Garden City Community College Community Theatre, the Community Theatre of Tribune, and a benefactor, supporter and fan of the University of Kansas. Maurine enjoyed dancing, singing, attending community theatre, her cats, and riding her bicycle and riding horses.
Survivors include 6 children & spouses Rick & Stephanie Firner of Wichita, KS, Sonya & Jim Garwood of Clyde, KS, Robert & Linda Firner of Tribune, KS, Renee & Doug Bergman of Olathe, KS, Antoni & Connie Firner of Belton, MO, and Angela & Bud Tyroler of Topeka, KS; 12 Grandchildren; 11 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Nieces Francie Firner Stoner and De De Breitenbach Alcaraz; and a Nephew David Breitenbach. Maurine is preceded in death by her husband Bill who died on October 27, 2004. She is also preceded in death by her parents; a sister Elaine Lytle; a brother Malloy Breitenbach; and 2 Grandchildren.
A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. MST on Friday, February 9, 2018 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Tribune. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST on Saturday, February 10 also at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Fr. Benjamin Martin as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Greeley County Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. MST on Friday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Tribune. The family suggests memorials given to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Greeley County Long Term Care all in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
