Obituary for Janis Elaine Dreiling

Janis Elaine Dreiling, 73, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born March 7, 1944 in Garden City the daughter of Hubert & Irene (Suydan) Breit.
Janis has lived most of her life in the Garden City and Deerfield area. A homemaker, she also has worked as a CNA at the Kearny County Hospital and High Plains Retirement Village; she owned and operated various restaurants in Deerfield and Lakin; and she also worked as a school bus driver for Deerfield schools. Janis was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church of Garden City, Altar Society, she volunteered many hours at the Emmaus House, and was a supporter of ABC Pregnancy and the Dominican Sisters of Peace in Great Bend. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, sewing, reading, playing cards, writing, and she especially loved her time with family.
On November 29, 1962, she married Joe A. Dreiling in Garden City. He survives. Other survivors include 5 children Joey Dreiling of Deerfield, Kansas, Becky & husband Kim Norton of Wichita, Kansas, Chris & wife Susan Dreiling of Deerfield, Kansas, Terry & wife Birgit Dreiling of Abilene, Kansas, and Cathy Dreiling of Deerfield, Kansas; 2 sisters Regina Ragland of Marshall, Arkansas and Neva Schwartz of Congress, Arizona; a brother Emil A. “Dusty” Gawer of Marshall, Arkansas; 10 Grandchidlren Hailey Dreiling, Andrew Norton, Alyssa Cole, Taryn Cole, Courtney Arnold, Cameron Cole, Megan Simmoneau, Shawn Dreiling, Ethan Dreiling, & Paula McEachern; and 9 Great-Grandchildren Jordan Cole, Jazmin Richardson Maxwell Richardson, Kylie Arnold, Brady Arnold, Joshua Dreiling, Tristan Simmoneau, Corey Cole, & Jaxon Dreiling.
Janis is preceded in death by her parents; her step-father Emil Gawer; a daughter Sheri Cole; and a brother Jim Gawer.
A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 12 also at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to the Emmaus House or to Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo both in care of the funeral home.
