Obituary for Duane "Sam" Shapland

Dighton- Duane “Sam” Shapland, 78, died on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Lane County Hospital in Dighton. He was born on November 18, 1939 in Lane County the son of Melvin Earnest & Hazel Elaine (Johnson) Shapland. He married Twila J. Kirkendall on April 7, 1963 at Goodland.

Sam graduated from Dighton High School in 1957. He worked at Farmers Oil in Dighton for 43 years as Tire Foreman, Assistant Manager and Interim Manager several times. He was a member of the First Christian Church and was a Dighton City Council member for 24 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening especially growing tomato’s and being involved with his Grandchildren.

Survivors include his Wife- Twila Shapland of the Home, Daughter- Gina & Roger Reed of Bettendorf, Iowa, 2 Sons- Kirk & Tala Shapland and Cory Shapland of Dighton, Sister- Lois & Rex Davis of Garden City & 5 Grandchildren

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Thursday at United Methodist Church in Dighton with Rev Berniece Ludlum officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Lane County Amusement Association in care of Boomhower Funeral Home. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com
