Obituary for William "Bill" Faulconer

William “Bill” Faulconer, 87, died Sunday, February 25, 2018 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born September 12, 1930 in Finney County, Kansas the son of James A. & Esther K. (Metz) Faulconer.
Bill attended Pleasant Valley School in rural Haskell County, Kansas. He then attended and graduated from Holcomb High School in 1949. From May 1951 to February 1953, Bill served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart. On January 30, 1951, Bill married Erma May Holmes in Raton, New Mexico. They lived in Sheridan Lake, Colorado from 1954 until the 1980’s when they moved to Garden City. They have lived in Garden City since. While in Sheridan Lake, Bill worked as a farm hand. He later worked as a mechanic for John Deere in Garden City for 10 years. Bill was a rock hound where he enjoyed collecting rocks and making jewelry. He was a member of the VFW of Garden City and a member of AARP.
Survivors include his wife Erma May Faulconer of the home; 3 children Georgia M. (Keith) Hartman of Schoenchen, KS, Wayne A. (Connie) Faulconer of Bonner Ferry, ID, and Billie J. Baxter of Dighton, KS; a Daughter-In-Law Ginger Faulconer of Shields, KS; a Sister-In-Law Mildred Faulconer of Wheatland, WY; 10 Grandchildren; 17 Great-Grandchildren; and 1 Great Great-Grandchild. Bill is preceded in death by his parents; a son Johnnie L. Faulconer; a Son-In-Law Greg Baxter; five brothers James H. Faulconer, Charles M. Faulconer, Harold A. Faulconer, David R. Faulconer, & Donald D. Faulconer; and a sister Lena E. Kells.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas with Von Hunn officiating. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to the Finney County Museum or to the Garden City VFW both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
