Obituary for Blanca Estela Ibarra

Blanca Estela Ibarra, age 63, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Thursday, March 8, 2018, in rural Grant County, Kansas. She was born May 2, 1954, in Guadalupe, Zacatecas, Mexico, the daughter of Salvador D. and Maria Guadalupe (Torres) Sosa.

Blanca married Jose A. Ibarra on February 15, 1974, in Guadalupe, Zacatecas, Mexico. They have lived in Ulysses since 1973. Blanca was a very devout Catholic. She was an active member of the Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, and spent hours praying the rosary. Blanca enjoyed helping children and missionaries. She worked at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in the maintenance department as janitor for years. She was also employed at High Plains Educational Cooperative. Blanca’s pride and joy was her grandkids, and she loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and crocheting.

She is survived by her sons, Antonio S. Ibarra of Ulysses, Jose “Pepe” Ibarra, Jr. of Lawrence; daughter, Elizabeth Contreras and husband Jason of Sandusky, Ohio; grandchildren, Kaleah, Tyler, and Greyson Contreras; brothers, Johnny Sosa and Marco A. Sosa both of Ulysses, and Salvador Sosa of Liberal; sisters, Gloria Hernandez, Margarita Sosa and Josephine Taul all of Ulysses, and Amalia Harris of Kentucky.

Blanca is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jose; sister, Margarita Limon; and brothers, Roberto Sosa and Juan Sosa.

Rosary and vigil service will be Thursday, March 15, 2018, at 7:00 PM and funeral mass will be Friday, March 16, 2018, at 10:00 AM both at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Peter Fernandez officiating. Friends may call Thursday, March 15, 2018, from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the Blanca Ibarra Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
