Obituary for Mary M. Pitts

Garden City- Mary M. Pitts, 89, died on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. She was born on May 7, 1928 at Kinsley the daughter of Francis & Clara (Schwab) Hey, Sr.. She married Willis E. “Bill” Pitts on April 24, 1948 at Jetmore. He died on January 10, 2018.

Mary grew up in Jetmore and graduated from Jetmore High School. After moving to Garden City she was a cook for USD #457 at Abe Hubert, Georgia Matthews & Kenneth Henderson schools for 27 years. She later cooked at the Community Day Care for 12 years and Head Start for 6 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Garden City and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, 5 Sisters- Lorraine Hey, Loretta Hiller, Betty Sinclair, Lucy Craghead & Luella Fose, Brother- Kenneth Hey & Son-In-Law- Greg Hands.

Survivors include her Son- Terry (Sondra Jantz) Pitts of Ford County, Daughter- Peggy Hands of Garden City,2 Sisters- Francis Geraldine “Gerry” Stuckey of Jetmore & N. Jean (Larry) Stegman of Dodge City, Brother- Francis (Jenny) Hey, Jr. of Jetmore, 5 Grandchildren- Melissa (Scott) VanderHamm & Travis (Jodi) Pitts of Ingalls, Trevor (Jenny) Hands & Tyler (Amanda) Hands of Garden City & Tiffany (Craig) Stockebrand of Salina & 9 Great-Grandchildren- Jhett and Logan VanderHamm, Jaxon and Tryan Pitts, Macy, Gentry and Lainey Hands & Tabor and Payton Stockebrand and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Funeral Service will be at 9:30 AM on Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Garden City with Rev Tod Anthony officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Jetmore. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com
