Obituary for CL Davis

CL Davis, 70, died unexpectedly on Monday, June 25, 2018 in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on November 3, 1947 in Beaver, Oklahoma to Cecil and Esther (Hoover) Davis of Liberal, Kansas.
He grew up in Liberal and graduated high school in 1965. On November 9, 1968, he married Kandy Greckel in Liberal. CL was an assistant manager at JC Penney’s until they moved to Hutchinson, Kansas where he had a Jewel Tee route. He then bought a Tom’s Candy route in Garden City and moved there in 1970. Later, CL was a salesman for New York Life Insurance. In 1976, he moved to Holcomb and started doing homebuilding for C & R Readybuilt. Later he formed his own construction company, Midplains Construction. He later worked with his son Jeremy. CL was a faithful longtime member of Word of Life Church. He is preceded in death by his dad Cecil L. Davis.
Survivors include his wife Kandy of the home, a daughter Stephanie and husband Rodney Clews of Garden City; a son Jeremy and wife Sheila Davis of Holcomb; and six grandchildren Joshua and Lance Stucky, Jasia, Jacob, and Willow Davis, and Georgia Jane Clews.
His mother Esther Davis of Liberal, Kansas also survives; as does his sister Sherry and husband Bill Burns of Kansas City, Missouri; his brothers Steve Davis and wife Miriam of Supulpa, Oklahoma and David Davis and wife Linda of Jenks, Oklahoma; a brother-in-law Mike Greckel and wife Annie of Texas; sisters-in-law Cynde and husband Jeff Gaiser of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska and Julie and husband Scott Hoekstra of Denver, Colorado; and fifteen nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Word of Life Church in Garden City. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations made to the family and sent to P.O. Box 408, Holcomb, Kansas 67851.
