Obituary for John R. Acosta

John R. Acosta, 73, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born December 6, 1944 in Clovis, California the son of Domingo & Angelina (Bernal) Acosta.
Growing up, John lived in various places before moving to Garden City in the late 1970’s. He has lived in Garden City since. John served in the United States Army. He worked for the Garden City Police Department for 28 years. He began working in 1982 as a communicator with the police department. He later became the communications director and then moved over to the records division. He retired in December of 2010. John also worked part time at Streeter Cleaners. He enjoyed socializing with his family and friends.
On April 12, 1980, he married Lorraine A. Garcia in Denver, Colorado. She survives. Other survivors include 3 sons Chris & wife Karen Garcia of Denver, Colorado, John Acosta of Garden City, and Thomas Acosta of Garden City; and 3 grandchildren Alexis Garcia, Gabrial Garcia, and Dade Acosta. John is preceded in death by his parents.
A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 13 also at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Fr. Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with military graveside rites conduced by the Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard and the American Legion District #8 Honor Guard. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to the donor’s choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
