Doris Crist was born Doris Jean Henry, daughter of Opal Summers Henry and Frank Henry, on August 14, 1931 in Bloomington, Illinois.
The Henry’s were from Oklahoma and moved back there while Doris was small. The family then moved to Garden City later in the 1930’s. In 1952, Doris married and joined the Crist family. She was married to Dennis Crist for over fifty years and was widowed in 2007. Her parents, her sister Jo Ann Danford, and her brother Donald Henry also preceded her in death.
She is survived by sons Jeff Crist & wife Dallas of Garden City, Ks. and Kelly Crist & wife Lisa of Scott City, Ks.; a daughter Stace Crist-Robbins and husband Marc of Phoenix, Az.; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Doris has been a solid presence in the Scott and Finney County areas as a homemaker, Bible scholar and teacher, volunteer, caregiver, prize-winning china painter, and much more. She has been an inspiration and example to friends both known and unknown to her as she supported philanthropy and Christian causes throughout the world.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Prairie View Church of the Brethren in Friend, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Prairie View Cemetery.
