Obituary for Richard Wayne Bentley

Richard Wayne Bentley, 71, died Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at his home in Garden City. He was born August 24, 1947 in Las Animas, Colorado the son of Earl & Josephine (Blackford) Bentley.
Richard grew up in Las Animas where he attended school. In 1965, he moved with his family to Lamar, Colorado where he graduated from high school. Richard then attended Lamar Community College. Richard then served in combat during the Vietnam War from March 7, 1968 to October 11, 1969. After the service, he lived in Pampa, Texas, Lamar, Colorado and Wyoming before moving to Garden City in 2014. He has lived in Garden City since. Richard was a lifelong self-employed truck driver.
On July 18, 1970, he married Lora A. Parker in Pampa, Texas. She survives. Other survivors include a son Derik Bentley of Garden City; one Granddaughter Katie Bentley of Brady, Texas; four brothers Bob Bentley of Merkel, Texas, Ed & wife Terrie Bentley of Ft. Worth, Texas, John & wife Esta Bentley of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Norman & wife Cindy Bentley of Brady, Texas; and a sister Marcella McElroy of Johnson, Kansas. Richard is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Martin Bentley and Bruce Bentley.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2018 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with military graveside rites conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard and the American Legion District #8 Honor Guards. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to St. Catherine Hospice in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
