S. Fielding Hands

Garden City- Samuel Fielding Hands, 93, died on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born on December 6, 1925 at the family farm the son of Vestil V. & Della G. (Olomon) Hands. He married Jean Recknor on September 2, 1945 in the Garden City Methodist Church. She died on March 3, 2011.

Fielding attended English Hill Rural School and graduated from Garden City High School in 1943. He was a well known soloist who sang for many meetings, church services, weddings and over 400 funerals. He served on many Church Committees and was a director on the Garden City Co-op Inc. board for 17 years. The Junior Chamber of Commerce chose Fielding as Outstanding Young Farmer in 1960. Fielding and Jean were selected Master Farmer & Master Homemaker of Kansas in 1986. His most appreciated honor was being selected as a member of the Garden City High School Hall of Fame in 1995. They made their home on the family farm. Three sons were born, Samuel L., Gregory J. and Cedric K. After graduation from Kansas State University all three joined their father in the farming and livestock operation under the name of Triangle H Grain and Cattle Company. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, an infant daughter, Brother- Dr. Sebel V. Hands and Son- Gregory J. Hands.

He is survived by 2 Sons- Sam & Janet Hands and Cedric & Karen Hands, Daughter-In-Law- Peggy Hands all of Garden City, Brother- Dr. Hollis H. Hands, 9 Grandchildren- Marisa (John) Kleysteuber, Quincy (Abby) Hands, Rebecca (Travis) Hands-Neidig, Trevor (Jenny) Hands, Tyler (Amanda) Hands, Tiffany (Craig) Stockebrand, Jeremy (Patty) Hands, Angela (Michael) Rooding & Nathan (Laura) Hands & 17 Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM Friday at First United Methodist Church with Rev Tod Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home with family present from 6:00 to 7:30 PM/ Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
