Obituary for Phyllis M. Thomason

Phyllis M. Thomason, age 88, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Saturday, October 19, 2019, at Western Prairie Senior Living Community in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born Saturday, November 22, 1930, in Centralia, Illinois, the daughter of George Edward and Annie Lucille (Williams) Robey.

Phyllis graduated from Protection High School. She lived in Ulysses until she married Willard Dean Thomason on October 22, 1951, in Farmington, New Mexico. They moved back to Ulysses and she worked at Ideal Grocery store as a meat wrapper until the store closed. She was a caregiver to her family, and one of her favorite hobbies was making Christmas candy.

Phyllis is survived by her son, Larry Thomason and wife Georgeann of Garden City; daughter, Ann Henson and husband Kenny of Ulysses; four grandchildren, Deana DeLeon and husband Jim of Ulysses, Dustin Strickland of Ulysses, Jeremy Thomason of Garden City, and Lesha Alvarez and husband Frank of Woodward, Oklahoma; 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard; and brothers, Carl Gene, Elza William, Jim and Dolton.

Private family graveside service was held Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at 2:00 PM at the Ulysses Cemetery with Pastor Gustavo Perez officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
