Interment: Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton, Kansas.

Lillie Morgan Demuth, age 97, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at The Legacy at Park View in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born September 20, 1912 in Hugoton, Kansas, the daughter of Tom and Julia Morgan.

Lillie spent most of her growing up years in Hugoton but graduated from Manhattan High School in 1930. Later she earned her teaching degree from Emporia State University. On July 6, 1936, she united in marriage to Walter Demuth. Most of their married life was spent in Stevens County, Hugoton, Kansas. Lillie taught school for 30 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Hugoton, a Sunday school teacher, 4-H leader, active in her church circle, served on the Library board, Hospital Auxiliary, Federated Women’s club and was a active member of the Order of the Easter Star. She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge and traveling.

Survivors include a son, Tex Demuth and wife Jean of Lakin, Kansas; a daughter, Judy Begley and husband Jim of Atwood, Kansas; grandchildren: Tod Demuth and wife Lisa of Eudora, Kansas, Pam Hittle and husband Kyle of Moscow, Kansas, Vernon Begley of Atwood, Kansas, and Julia Naefe and husband Jeff of Madison, Alabama; great grandchildren: Dexter and Emily Hittle, Levi, Kate, and Evan Demuth, and Lily, Noelle and Jack Naefe; brother, Ray Morgan of Carlsbad, New Mexico; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Lillie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter “Soup” in 1987; two sisters, Olive Kramer and Etna Brown; and one brother, Lee Morgan.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or donor's choice both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880.
