Visitation: Noon to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26 and Noon to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, September 27 , at Boomhower Funeral Home in Dighton, Kansas.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2009 at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Father Warren Stecklein officiating.
Interment: Dighton Memorial Cemetery in Dighton, Kansas.

A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2009 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Dighton, Kansas.

Jack P. Thomas, age 92, died September 23, 2009 at the Lane County Hospital in Dighton, Kansas. He was born November 30, 1916 in Ness County, Kansas the son of Lea and Clara Belle (Sawyer) Thomas. For most of his life, Jack was a resident of Lane County, Kansas. Jack married Helen A. Hineman on August 4, 1937 at Del Norte, Colorado. For two years after his marriage, he worked as a plumber and steamfitter in Del Norte. He and his wife then moved back to Dighton where Jack went to work for the Lane County Road Department for five years. Jack was a lifetime farmer/stockman but he also operated several other businesses. He built and owned for a time the Frigid Crème in Dighton. He owned and operated Dighton Farm Equipment which was a Massey Ferguson - Olive implement dealership. He owned and operated his own flying service for 22 years. Jack designed a stock tank heater – The Thomas Heater – for which he owned the patent. After his retirement, Jack enjoyed being a member of the JOY Center Band in Dighton and also The Hit and Miss Band in Scott City. Jack enjoyed dancing and continued to attend dances until very recently. Jack was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Dighton, Knights of Columbus #3210 of Dighton, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Bishop Forest Assembly, Rotary Club of Dighton, a former Board of Director of the Production Credit Association in Garden City, former Board of Director of the National Retail Farm Equipment Association, and a former member of the Chamber of Commerce in Dighton. He was an active member of his community and church and will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

Survivors include one son, Dennis and Judy Thomas of Dighton, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen who preceded him in death on January 19, 1991; one son, Jerry Thomas; one granddaughter, Tena Michelle Thomas; eight brothers, Bill, Cap, Lea Jr., Guy, Zach, Lester, Arle and Barnard; and four sisters, Gladys Thomas, Ruth McEnulty, Bertha Davison and an infant.

The family suggests memorials be given to St. Theresa Catholic Church or The JOY Center in care of Boomhower Funeral Home, PO Box 891, Dighton, KS 67839.
