Marguerite E. Hamill, 90 of Garden City, Kansas died Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on June 4, 1919 in LaCrosse, Kansas the daughter of Frank and Ethel (Owens) Scruggs. |
Marguerite attended high school in Rush County and helped on the family farm. On June 7, 1937 she married Samuel “Shorty” Hamill in Great Bend, Kansas. They relocated to Hodgeman County where they worked on a farm. Samuel and Marguerite later relocated to Garden City. She was a homemaker. She remained in Garden City. Marguerite was a very kind woman that loved to help people; she loved all children and really enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, camping, traveling, the mountains of Colorado, reading, writing, and crocheting and embroidering. She was a woman that was very loved by all of her family. |
Survivors include two daughters Joyce Mayfield of Topeka, Kansas and Zelma Guinn of Garden City, Kansas; a brother William Kuehn of Garden City, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren. |
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son Samuel Daryl Hamill, a brother Karl Mitchell; four sisters Betty Langley, Katherine Strackeljohn, Ruth Bahm, and Ethel Eichenauer and a granddaughter Gay Ellen Kerr. |
