Shirley A. Baker, age 74, died Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at the Hodgeman County Hospital in Jetmore, Kansas. She was born May 7, 1935 at Ness City, Kansas the daughter of Fred Edward and Alice Nona (Hunt) Roth. |
Born in Ness City, Shirley grew up in the Bazine area. She attended school there and graduated from Bazine High School. Shirley then went to work for Dr. Osborn at Wakeeney. On September 5, 1954 she married Robert H. Baker at Wakeeney, Kansas. After her marriage, Shirley moved to Dighton and worked at Murphy’s Variety until she began raising her family. She sold Avon products for over 20 years. She was active in her church and taught Sunday school for 25 years. Shirley was a 55 year member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Dighton. She had an extensive bell collection which she thoroughly enjoyed. Shirley also enjoyed riding with her husband on their motorcycle. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #190 Ladies Auxiliary both of Dighton.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of Jetmore, Kansas; son, Michael Baker of Wichita, Kansas; two grandchildren, Sara Rene Johnson of Dighton, Kansas and Brandon Baker of Wichita, Kansas; and one great grandchild.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter Michelle Johnson. |
