Evelyn Jean Thompson age 84, of Johnson, Kansas died Monday, October 12, 2009 at the Stanton County Hospital in Johnson, Kansas. She was born August 14, 1925 in Edwards County, Kansas the daughter of Herbert David and Mabel Arleta (Fisher) Johnson.

Jean graduated high school in Trousdale, Kansas and attended Kansas State University. She married Vern A. Thompson November 29, 1944 at Trousdale, Kansas; he preceded her in death on June 12, 2000. Vern and Jean moved to Syracuse, Kansas in 1946 and to Johnson in 1954. They spent their lives farming and raising cattle in Hamilton, Stanton and Kearney counties. Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Worthwhile Unit, and the Cosmos Club all at Johnson, Kansas. Jean also enjoyed spending time with her family, staying at the cabin in Colorado, painting and sewing. |
Survivors include three sons, David Thompson and wife Debbie of Great Bend, Kansas, Keith Thompson and wife Linda of Manhattan, Kansas, and Mark Thompson and wife Deborah of Lawrence, Kansas; three daughters, Linda McCann and husband Bill of New Melle, Missouri, Janet Cassing and husband Dave of Aurora, Oregon, and Karen Markley and husband Howard of Syracuse, Kansas; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. |
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Donald Johnson and two sisters Dorothy Hoopingarner and Jane Goertz. |
