Joe A. Hernandez, age 77, died Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born January 05, 1932 at Menard, Texas, the son of Pablo and Evarista (Aguirre) Hernandez.
Joe has lived in Ulysses since 1967. He has farmed, driven truck and operated heavy equipment. Joe liked to play bingo, cards, dominoes and play the harmonica. Joe attended the Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

Survivors include three sons, Martin of Ulysses, Kansas, Marcelo of Lubbock, Texas, Ruben of Ulysses; five daughters, Barbarita Hernandez of Arkansas City, Kansas, Theresa Hernandez of Ulysses, Delia Hernandez of Ulysses, Dora Hernandez of Dodge City, Kansas, Kathy Sandoval of Ulysses, Kansas; three brothers, Richard of Stafford, Kansas, David of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Victor of Ulysses, Kansas; four sisters, Elvira Sanchez and Adelina Cortinas both of Menard, Texas, Olivia Hernandez of San Angelo, Texas, Marcela Velardez of Independence, Kansas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents; three sons; Benito, Jose Jr. and Jessie; and two brothers Manuel and Marcelino.
