Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 24, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas with Father Efiri Matthias Selemobri, MSP officiating.
Interment: Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.

Rosary service will be held Friday, October 23, 2009 at 7:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.

Uriel Garcia Avila, age 12, died Sunday, October 18, 2009 in Dakota City, Nebraska. He was born December 02, 1996 in Garden City, Kansas the son of Gabriel Avila and Cynthia Garcia.

Uriel was born in Garden City, Kansas. He lived in Lubbock, Texas until February 2008 when he went to live with his father. He was a seventh grader at Homer Community School in Dakota City, Nebraska. He was very active in sports in school. His hobbies were playing football, basketball, and baseball. Uriel enjoyed riding and taking care of horses, taking trips to Mexico and spending time with his family.

Uriel is survived by his mother and stepfather, Cynthia Garcia and Rogelio Arias of Lubbock, Texas; his father and stepmother, Gabriel and Miriam Avila of Dakota City, Nebraska; six brothers, Jesus Garcia and Ernesto Garcia both of Lubbock, Texas, Jesus Ervey Avila, Gabriel Avila, Christian Avila, and Christopher Avila all of Dakota City, Nebraska; one sister, Brittany Garcia of Lubbock, Texas; grandparents, Wally and Dora Garcia of Garden City, Kansas, Jesus and Leonor Avila of Durango, Mexico; great grandmother, Esperanza Garcia of Ulysses, Kansas; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be given to Uriel Garcia Avila memorial fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. 7th St., Garden City, KS 67846.
