Joan A. Fort, age 79, died Monday, November 23, 2009 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born October 5, 1930 in Trenton, New Jersey, the daughter of Henry John and Olive Leona (Dalrymple) Platt. |
Joan graduated from Maryville College with a Degree in Education. Joan and Raymond Fort married in Tehran, Iran on June 19, 1959. They lived in Indonesia, Syria, India, Nepal, Western Samoa, Philippines, Italy, Afghanistan, Egypt, Pakistan, and Iran. She taught English as a second language in the elementary schools. In 1992, Joan and Raymond retired to Ulysses, Kansas. She loved knitting, her church groups and the Dana Minor circle at church. |
Survivors include two sons, John Clifford Fort and wife Elizabeth of Cincinnati, Ohio, Sgt. Som Prasad Fort and wife Jin of Korea; two daughters, Cynthia Louise Fort of Derby, Vermont, and Sandra Fort Smith and husband John of Winter Park, Florida; sister, Bonnie Larson of Trenton, New Jersey; sisters-in-law, Patricia Fort and Lynda Fort both of Ulysses, Kansas, Sarah Mae Finch and husband Jack of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Bill Fort and wife Dorothy of Ulysses, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Alex, Lynne, and Scott Fort, Steven and Alison Raye Smith, Joan Rose, and Eugene Cresent Fort; numerous relatives and friends around the world. |
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Raymond on April 30, 2003. |
