Edwin McLeish, age 80, died Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. He was born April 6, 1929 in Lane County, Kansas the son of Sherman W. and Irene (Cramer) McLeish.

Edwin grew up on the farm in Lane County and attended Alamota Grade School. He attended high school in Wichita, Kansas, and graduated from Englewood High School in California. He came back to Kansas where he attended Kansas State University and graduated with a degree in agriculture. Edwin married Lois M. Billington on March 17, 1950 in Topeka, Kansas. Edwin farmed and raised cattle. He was also very proud of his buffalo herd. He loved history and geneaology, was a conservationist and enjoyed nature. Edwin had been designated as an area weatherman for the weather service to keep track of rain amounts and also as a storm spotter. He was a member of Beeler United Methodist Church, Lane County Historical Society, former Eden Township Trustee, former Board of Director of the Beeler Co-op Elevator and American Cowboy Society.

Survivors include two sons, Ed McLeish of Stafford, Kansas, Bill McLeish of Ness City, Kansas; three grandchildren, Justin McLeish, Amanda McLeish, Lindy McLeish; one great-grandchild; and one caregiver, Michelle Stephen of Utica, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Derrell McLeish and two daughters-in-law, Lynne McLeish and Kathy McLeish.
