Leo Fife, age 88, died Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Mesa Rehab Center in Mesa, Arizona. He was born November 9, 1921 in Spencer, South Dakota, the son of John and Ethel (Thayer) Fife. |
Leo graduated from Highmore, South Dakota High School with the class of 1940. He married Leonora "Lorri" Wright on June 1, 1942 in Bay City, Michigan. He attended a welding school in Michigan before entering the U.S. Navy during World War II. In the Navy he was a Signalman serving near Japan. After his discharge he returned to Highmore and had a repair and welding shop for a short time. He went to work for Northern Pump Company and worked oil rigs in Wyoming and Montana. In 1954 he was transferred to Garden City and spent 34 years with the company and retired as the Superintendent of Operations. Leo enjoyed traveling the world, golfing, fishing, and attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's events. Leo was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City and a Boy Scout Leader for Troop #108. |
Leo is survived by his wife, Lorri Fife of the home; two daughters, Jan Kleysteuber of Garden City, Joni Milstead of Branson, Missouri; one son, Jerry Fife of Scottsdale, Arizona; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. |
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. |
