Interment: Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton, Kansas.

Lela Kirkland, age 92, died Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kansas. She was born July 7, 1917 in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma the daughter of Martin and Ollie (Black) Puckett.

Lela, a homemaker, attended school in Okemah, Oklahoma. She married Willard Vaughn Kirkland on January 12, 1935 in Wetumka, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on March 24, 2005. Lela was a member of the Hugoton Baptist Church and enjoyed doing ceramics, sewing, and taking care of her grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Peggy A. Bane and husband Ralph of Hugoton, Kansas; one son, Ronald L. Kirkland and wife Kathy of Wakeeney, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Donald D. Knier Jr., David D. Knier, Tammy Wolff, Steve Kirkland, Tracey (Stuckey) Gardner, Laura Dawn (Stuckey) Day, Jeremy Stuckey; 22 great-grandchildren, Justin Kemp, Allison Knier, Kayla Knier, Krysta Knier, Ashley Knier, Megan Knier, Drake Knier, Brock Leonard, Abigale Gardner, Kimberly Day, Dalton Day, Alex Wolf, Lora Wolf, Danielle Wolf, Sydney Kirkland, Addison Denise Kirkland, Payton Kemp, Tad Stuckey, Jesse Stuckey, Brittany Stuckey, Nichole Stuckey, Nikki Stuckey; and many great- great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Wendell Ray Kirkland; granddaughter, Denise (Knier) Leonard; two great-grandchildren, Emily Gardner, Michael Stuckey; brothers, Dean, Dale, Ray, Marvin; and sister, Pauline Jones.
