Visitation: 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 15, 2010 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses, Kansas.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses with the Reverend Michael J. Bridge and Reverend Dennis Zimmerman officiating.
Interment: Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas.

Lydia Mae Maruyama, age 77, died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Florida. She was born January 24, 1932 in Crowley, Colorado, the daughter of Homer Stanford and Florence Clara (Kirk) Taylor.

Lydia was a beauty consultant for Mary Kay cosmetics for 30 years and a director for five years. She has lived in Ulysses since 1968 moving from Ordway, Colorado. She married Sam Maruyama on September 30, 1968 in Denver, Colorado. Lydia enjoyed yard work, gardening, arts and crafts, quilting and ceramics. She enjoyed the time she spent with her kids and grandkids. Lydia was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ulysses for over 30 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Bronner of Amarillo, Texas, Christy Cole of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Melanie Fienga of Polk City, Florida; one son, Michael Bronner of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Joseph, Roger, Wesley, Cheryl, Michaela, Natalie, and Lydia; great grandchildren, Emilio, Mariah, Trey and Jaylee; her adopted mother, Elsie Kirk of Crowley, Colorado; two brothers, Richard Kirk, Johnny Kirk both of Colorado; special nieces and nephew, Scott Taylor, Patty Taylor and Susan Taylor Miller; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lydia is preceded in death by her parents; husband Sam on August 18, 1997; sister, Madeline Newman; brothers, Frank Taylor and Homer Lee Taylor.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Grant County Library or the Historic Adobe Museum both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
