Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2010 and from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2010 , at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, Kansas.
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Garden City, Kansas with Reverend Lyle Stuehrenberg officiating.
Interment: Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, Kansas.

Karla Jean Grauberger Timmons, 41 of Deerfield, Kansas died Monday, February 8, 2010 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas due to complications from her long battle with Huntington’s Disease. She was born January 26, 1969 in Kansas City, Kansas. Karla was adopted at birth by her parents, Kenneth & Viola “Penny” Adams Grauberger.

Karla grew up in Deerfield, Kansas and graduated with the class of 1987. She graduated from Garden City Community College with an Associates of Applied Science degree in 1989. In 1992 she received her Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Ft. Hays State University. Karla was especially drawn to help children with special needs.

Karla was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Deerfield, Kansas and was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. Karla enjoyed reading, playing the piano, cooking, and decorating cakes. She was married to Jeffery Timmons in 1994 and they lived in the Lawrence, Kansas area. In October of 2007, Karla moved to High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas and lived her final years under their wonderful care.

Karla is survived by her two children, Brandon Michael Timmons and Melissa Ann Timmons both of Raymore, Missouri; her parents of Deerfield, Kansas; her brother, Mark Grauberger of Papillion, Nebraska; her sister, Julie and husband Roy Cessna of Garden City, Kansas; three nephews, two nieces, one great-niece and two great-nephews.

The family request memorials be given to her children’s education fund or to High Plains Retirement Village both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, P.O. Box 91, Lakin, KS 67860.
