Helen G. Doubrava, age 89, died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Homestead Health and Rehabilitation Center in Garden City, Kansas. She was born May 7, 1920 in Udall, Kansas the daughter of Willis A. and Elsie M. (Thompson) Rowe. |
Helen was raised and attended school in Udall. After her education, she worked as a telephone operator in Winfield and lived in Wichita and Winfield before moving to Garden City in 1948. On February 27, 1942 she married J.A. Doubrava in Wellington. He died on April 10, 1984. Helen was a homemaker and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed volunteer activities such as Meals on Wheels and the Red Cross. She helped form a Mother's Club when her children were young. She was a member of several bridge clubs and enjoyed antiquing, singing in church and nursing homes and any social or family activities. She attended Bible Christian Church of Garden City and was a past member of Elks Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. |
Survivors include one son, Mike Doubrava of Durant, Oklahoma; two daughters, Linda Taylor and Sharolyn Funk both of Garden City, Kansas; one brother, Bill Rowe of Great Bend, Kansas; eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. |
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Merle, Earl, Ronnie Rowe; three sisters, Lorene Bowby, Thelma Buckman and Sharolyn Richardson. |
