Thelma J. “Cookie” Edwards 91, of Garden City, Kansas died Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta, Kansas. She was born on September 20, 1918 in Mountain View, Missouri the daughter of John Otis and Ida Jane (Thomas) Belew. |
Thelma was born in Mountain View, Missouri. She relocated to Holcomb, Kansas where she attended and graduated from Holcomb High School. After high school, Thelma would return to Mountain View, Missouri where she married A.C. Routh. In 1946 Thelma returned to Garden City where she was a homemaker as well as a cook for various restaurants in Garden City. While living in Garden City Thelma married Clayton Cook. He preceded her in death. After retiring Thelma married Lewis Edwards in Garden City, they enjoyed traveling the eastern states and going to casinos. In 2006 Thelma moved to Satanta, Kansas where she remained. Thelma enjoyed fishing, crocheting, her grandchildren and loved spending time with her family. |
Survivors include four sons, Donald Routh of Huntsville, Alabama, Bobby Routh of Canton, Oklahoma, Gerald Routh of Hinesville, Georgia, Henry Cook of Georgia; a sister, Grayce Potts of Washington; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. |
She is preceded in death by an infant son Gary Routh, a daughter Carol Noel, her parents, husbands, a brother Clarence Belew and three sisters Mildred Henselman, Alice Farre and Freda Abbey. |
