Earl Ray White, 84, of Elkhart, Kansas died February 12, 2010 at Morton County Hospital, Elkhart, Kansas. He was born November 9, 1925 in Reno County, Kansas the son of Fredrick Earl and Elva Fay McCowan. |
Ray moved with his family west of Manter, Kansas at the age of nine. They later moved to a farm north of Elkhart. Ray graduated from Elkhart High School in 1942, and joined the Navy. After basic training in Faragut, Idaho, he was stationed on San Clemente Island in California. Ray served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged in June 1946, then attended Panhandle State University for a semester. He then joined his father on the family farm. He was a member of the Elkhart Church of the Nazarene and Morton County Grazing Association. With the exception of his family, Ray loved ranching and farming the most. He realized his dream of owning a cattle ranch and raising cattle with his boys.
Ray and Lorene Vernis Delay, the daughter of Guy and Lola Delay, were married January 31, 1950, in Clayton, New Mexico. They celebrated their 60th anniversary together this year. Ray and Lorene lived and farmed in northern Morton County until they moved to Elkhart in 2000.

Survivors include his wife Lorene of the home; five sons, Jim White, Gary White and wife Deb, Tim White and wife Connie all of Elkhart, Kansas, Mike White and wife Donna, Jeff White and wife Deb both of Sublette, Kansas; one daughter, Kathi Morgan and husband Don of Elkhart, Kansas; three brothers, Edgar White of Elkhart, Kansas, Floyd White of Boise City, Oklahoma, Eugene White and wife Janet of Tuscumbia, Missouri; three sisters, Helen Swagerty and husband Ralph, JoAnn Fowler and husband Lynn both of Elkhart, Kansas, Elva Johnson and husband Boyd of Rolla, Kansas; nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. |
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Trevor Joel White, two great-grandsons, Malen Huck Anderson, and Tryson Lee Morgan. |
