Visitation: 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 23 and from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 24 , at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.
Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M., Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Community Congregational Church in Garden City, Kansas with Reverend Dr. Michael Lake officiating.
Interment: Haskell County Cemetery in Sublette, Kansas.

Maxine Kilbourn, 93 of Garden City, Kansas died Friday, February 19, 2010 at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on November 8, 1916 in Santa Fe, Kansas the daughter of Lewis C. and Maude (Hall) Ridge.

Maxine was born in Santa Fe, Kansas and at the age of two her family relocated to North West Missouri before moving to Sublette, Kansas. While in Sublette, Maxine attended school where she graduated from Sublette High School in 1935. After high school she attended Fort Hays Teachers College, where she obtained her Teacher Certificate. She returned to southwest Kansas where she lived at a teacherage in Holcomb, Kansas and taught class in a one room school house in Ivanhoe, Kansas. On December 23, 1939 she married Lewis Kilbourn in Sublette, Kansas he died on November 28, 1990. Maxine and Lewis lived in Hugoton, Kansas and later moved to Sublette, Kansas until relocating to Garden City in 1952 where she would remain. While in Garden City Maxine was a homemaker and a clerk for the Finney County Treasurer Office for 12 years before retiring in 1976. Maxine enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and tatting, she loved to travel and really enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Community Congregational Church, VFW Auxiliary, AARP, Royal Neighbors, T.O.P.S. and Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Jean Wheeler of Wichita, Kansas; son, Lewis Edward Kilbourn of Lakewood, Colorado; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and infant brother.

The family request memorials be given to Disabled American Veterans or Community Congregational Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. 7th St., Garden City, KS 67846.
