Funeral Service: 9:45 AM, Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Garden Valley Retirement Village Chapel in Garden City, Kansas with Reverend Terry Major officiating.
Interment: Plains Cemetery in Plains, Kansas.

Eugene S. Prater, age 85, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas. He was born July 14, 1924 in Pullman, Washington the son of Ralph Boyd and Elizabeth (Lyle) Prater.

Eugene grew up in Idaho and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Before his marriage he was the cook at the Robinson Motor Inn in Scott City, 12 Mile Cafe and Granny's Cafe. On January 30, 1975, Eugene married Delorse F. Wyatt in Garden City. He and his wife ran the Dee and Genes Tavern in Garden City from 1977 to 1981. He then cooked at Garden City Community College and at IBP before he retired. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards and his family activities.

Eugene is survived by his wife Delorse F. Prater of the home; four sons, Donald D. Wyatt of Norfolk, Nebraska, Norman Wyatt of Garden City, Kansas, Marvin Wyatt of Scott City, Kansas, Gary Wyatt of Garden City, Kansas; two daughters, Donna Allen-Roth of Garden City, Kansas, Janet Wilson of Garden City, Kansas; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ray and Roy; and two sisters, Mary and Eva.
