Carey F. Bretz, age 95, died Friday, March 5, 2010 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas. She was born August 30, 1914 in Finney County, Kansas to Edwin Martin and Myrtle (Minnich) Crozier.

Carey was a lifelong Finney county resident and attended Friend Consolidated School and Beauty School in Wichita. She taught school for three years and worked in a beauty shop for several years. On October 22, 1938 she married George H. Bretz in Liberal, Kansas. She and her husband lived on a farm near Friend for most of her life before moving into Garden City. Carey's passion was playing bridge and she enjoyed visiting family.

Carey is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
|
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 30, 1978; two brothers, Roland Harkness, Claude Harkness; five sisters, Alda Wilken, Lillian Caldwell, Vona Crist Nations, Shirley Crozier and Lula Dick Cowgill Duffy.
