Obituary for Roxana Young

Roxana Young, age 67, of Ulysses, Kansas died Thursday, January 26, 2017, at her home in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born November 26, 1949, in Shiatook, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jack L. Smith, Sr. and Betty (Weathers) Smith.

Roxana moved to Liberal, Kansas in 1960 where she graduated high school. She joined Francis Lloyd “Butch” Young in Ulysses after their marriage on May 31, 1968 in Liberal. Roxana enjoyed going to the drag races with her daughter, watching her son and daughter work on their cars, and attending and participating in car shows with Butch. She was an animal lover and was always taking in stray cats and dogs. Roxana was currently working at Dollar General in Ulysses.

She is survived by her sister, Rhea King and husband Marvin of Niotaze, Kansas; brother, Jack L. Smith Jr. and wife Lee Ann of Skiatook, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Suzie Young; six grandchildren, Sam, Larry Jr., Ralph, Sara, Merriam, and Sierra; one great-granddaughter, Elliana Alonso; brothers-in-law, Leon Young of Ulysses, Kansas and Gus Brown of Johnson, Kansas; sister-in-law, Berniece Correll of Hesston, Kansas; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Roxana is preceded in death by her parents; husband Butch in 2015; daughter, Kimberly Jean Young Howard; son, Larry Eugene Young; and brother, Charles G. Smith.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at 10:00 AM at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Graveside service will be Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Ethel Reece Cemetery at Barnsdall, Oklahoma with Reverend Jack L. Smith, Jr. officiating. Friends may call on Monday, February 6, 2017, from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM, with family present from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the Ulysses Animal Shelter in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
