Obituary for Norma Olomon

Norma Olomon was born on December 13, 1917, the second child of Frank & Mary (Wallace) Snyder, on the family farm north of Hill City, Kansas. She attended grade school at the Spring Creek Grade School and graduated from the Hill City High School. After graduating from high school in 1935, she became certified to teach and began teaching at Lone Tree School, near Hill City. In April 1941, she married Charles P. Olomon from Garden City. At the time of their marriage, Charles was employed by the Holly Sugar Company in Torrington, Wyoming. Charles was a field man for Holly Sugar and he and Norma lived in the small community of Hawk Springs, south of Torrington. In 1944, they moved to Garden City, and Charles began farming his family’s farm north of Garden city. Norma and Charles lived on the family farm until 2003, when it was necessary for Charles to move to an assisted living facility.
Norma was a charter member of the happy Homemakers Extension unit. She was also a member for over 50 years in Garden City Eastern Star Chapter and 65 years in the Social Order of Beauceant of Garden City, and was active in both organizations for many years. She was a long-time member of the First Christian Church, and a member of the Church Circle.
Norma and Charles also enjoyed traveling to different areas of the United States. They especially enjoyed the trip to Alaska in their motor home.
After Charles’ death, Norma lived in her home in Garden City until 2011 when she moved to Garden Valley Retirement Village where she made new friends and enjoyed her surroundings and excellent personal care from the professional staff.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; her sisters Lois Blackford and Doris Misenhimer; and many life-long friends. She is survived by her son James Patrick Olomon of Missoula, MT; her daughter Linda Stewart of Junction City, KS; a sister Loree Pembleton of New Braunfels, TX; grandchildren Matt (Donna) Regehr of Panhandle, TX, Marcy (Curtis) Peterson of Holcomb, KS, and Tyler Olomon of Missoula, MT; great-grandchildren Sydnee (Wes) Sterling, Jakob (Kalli) Stegman, Nicholas Stegman, Emilee Stegman, Tucker (Sierra) Peterson, Michael Peterson, Breanna Regehr; and three great-great-granddaughters.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the First Christian Church in Garden City with Rev. Scott Schurle officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City and the family will be at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday to visit with friends.
