Obituary for Father Frank G. Jordan

Garden City- Father Frank G. Jordan, retired priest of the Diocese of Dodge City, died September 27, 2017, in Garden City, Kansas. He was 93 years old. In addition to being a diocesan priest, Father Jordan was a Dominican Associate

He was born August 21, 1924 in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Bernard and Mary (Laverty) Jordan. He took his seminary studies at Mungret College in Limerick, Ireland and All Hallows College in Dublin, Ireland. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 19, 1960 by the Most Rev. John Joseph Scanlan, Auxiliary Bishop of Honolulu. Father Jordan was recruited in seminary for service in Kansas.

He served as Associate Pastor at St John the Evangelist, Hoisington (1960-1961) and Sacred Heart, Pratt (1961-1967). His Pastorates included: Holy Rosary, Medicine Lodge with St John, Kiowa (1967-1970) and St John at St John with St Francis Xavier, Seward (1970-1972). He served in area team ministry from 1976 to 1983 at St John The Baptist, Spearville and St Lawrence, Jetmore. In his last Pastorate he served St Lawrence, Jetmore with the missions St Anthony, Hanston and Holy Rosary, Burdett (1983-1989).

Father Jordan served as a Chaplain of the Pastoral team at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City from 1989 to 1997 and was an active substitute at St Mary, Garden City and Christ The King, Deerfield. He retired in 1997. He was State Chaplain for the Knights Of Columbus from 2004 to 2006.

Father Jordan was preceded in death by his Brothers- John, Stephen, James and Bernard. He is survived by his Sister- Catherine Laverty Jordan of Glasgow, Scotland and numerous Nieces and Nephews in California, England and Holland.

Vigil Service will be at 7:00 PM Thursday at St Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City with Rev Warren Stecklein, presiding. Mass Of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Friday at Dominican Chapel of the Plains in Great Bend with Most Rev Ronald M. Gilmore, Bishop Emeritus of Dodge City Presiding. Burial will follow at Dominican Sisters Resurrection Cemetery in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to Dechant Foundation with the Catholic Diocese of Dodge City or the Dominican Sisters of Peace at Great Bend in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
