John L. Daniel, Sr., 94, died Monday, December 18, 2017 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born February 26, 1923 in Garden City the son of Herman & Carrie (White) Daniel.
John has been a lifetime resident of Garden City where he attended Garden City schools. John worked for 30 years as a product designer for Oswalt Industries. After his retirement, he continued to work for another 20 years in security for BNSF Railroad. John’s hobbies include sand dragsters, baja’s, dune buggies, motorcycles, 4-wheeler’s, and hunting. In his retirement years, he spent many hours tinkering, going to coffee and enjoying his cats. John was also a HAM radio operator and was an avid college football fan, especially the Oklahoma Sooners.
On September 21, 1957, he married Rafaela Jimenez in Raton, New Mexico. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters Carrie Daniel of Garden City and Eileen Foil of Garden City; and two grandchildren Jon Urban of Lawrence, Kansas and Audrey Foil of Garden City. John is preceded in death by his parents; a son Johnny “Honda” Daniel; a sister Geraldine Nucho; and a brother Gaylord Daniel.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Bob Bates officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. to service time on Friday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to the Finney County Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.
