Obituary for Leonard James Snodgrass

Leonard James Snodgrass, 90, died Thursday, April 5, 2018 at The Cottages in Garden City. He was born September 16, 1927 in Garden City the son of Cecil & Hazel (Jessup) Snodgrass.
Leonard grew up with his family on a farm south of Garden City. He attended Pleasant Valley Grade School. Leonard later attended and graduated from Garden City High School. He then served in the United States Marine Corps from September 1946 to September 1949. On August 18, 1951, he married Margaret Ilene Liggett in Kansas City, Missouri. They relocated to Dodge City, Haskell County, Finney County, and Liberal before moving to Garden City in 1972. They have lived in Garden City since. Leonard worked most of his life around agriculture. He worked as a farmer; Buffalo Industries; was the owner and operator of Bison Milling; and later worked and retired from Inland Container. Leonard was a member of First Christian Church and the Eagle’s Lodge both in Garden City. He enjoyed spending his time tinkering with crafts, camping, and riding his motorcycles.
Survivors include a son Jim Snodgrass of Garden City; two daughters Georgeann & husband Larry Thomason of Garden City and Jeanna & husband Richard Jones of Bucklin, Kansas; four Grandchildren; and nine Great-Grandchildren. Leonard is preceded in death by his wife Margaret who died on September 8, 2010. He is also preceded in death by his parents and a brother Claude Snodgrass.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Rev. Scott Schurle officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Garnand Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials given to Wounded Warriors in care of the funeral home.
