Obituary for Arlen "Chili" Childress

Arlen “Chili” Childress, 79, died Saturday, April 14, 2018 at The Shepherd’s Center in Cimarron, Kansas. He was born July 4, 1938 in Garden City, Kansas the son of Clarence Childress and Margaret (Bruce) Childress Silvey.
Arlen grew up in the Garden City area. On October 6, 1962, he married Roberta Lee Sroufe in Great Bend, Kansas. The moved to Cimarron in 1969. He worked as a longtime district supervisor the Kansas Department of Transportation. Chili enjoyed old cars.
Survivors include a daughter Dalonda Jan Padilla of Garden City; 2 Sisters-In-Law Robin & husband Ronald Herrman of Garden City, Kansas and Dee Carroll of Bountiful, Utah; 2 Nieces Julie Brown of Cimarron, Kansas and Stephanie & husband Blaine Buchholz of Wakeeney, Kansas; and a Nephew Louis & wife Paula Zirkel of Layton, Utah. Chili is preceded in death by his wife who died on July 5, 2002. He is also preceded in death by a Nephew Curtis Herrman.
A Graveside service will take place at a later date at the Cimarron Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to The Shepherd’s Center in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
