Obituary for William T. "Bill" Johnson

William T. “Bill” Johnson, 77, died Monday, April 30, 2018 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born January 5, 1941 in Concord, Tennessee the son of Harry Taylor & Helen (Brashier) Johnson.
Bill lived with his family in Tennessee before they moved to Boulder, Colorado. They later moved to Colorado Springs where Bill graduated from high school in 1959. He then attended a year at Colorado State University. On December 26, 1962, he married Patricia E. “Pat” Rich in Lakin, Kansas. They have lived in Lakin since. Bill worked most of his life as a mechanic. He first worked at the Texaco Station; then for the next 30 years worked at Lakin Motor Co. From 1990 to 2000, Bill worked for the City of Lakin at the Lakin Municipal Power Plant. Bill was serving on the Beymer Park Advisory Board, and he served on the Lakin Fire Department from 1977 to 1998 of which he served as Fire Chief from 1986 to 1998. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching sports and car races, and restoring old cars.
Survivors include a daughter Wendy & husband Gayler Pearson of Lakin; a sister Glenda Woodcox of Warsaw, Indiana; and two grandsons Hayden Pearson and Parker Pearson. Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Pat who died on August 2, 2014. He is also preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter Patti Duffield.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Lakin Cemetery with Rev. Glenda Woodcox officiating. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to the Deerfield United Methodist Church or to St. Catherine Hospice both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin.
