George  Isaac  Powell
Garden City- George Isaac Powell, 92, died on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. He was born on November 16, 1925 at Hiattville, Kansas the son of Albert & Sarah Angeline (Hixon) Powell. He married Evelyn Arlene Heronemus on April 29, 1954 at Ness City. She died on February 24, 2004.

George attended Arlington School near Hiattville and then moved to Texas at a young age. After his marriage he moved to Dighton to go to work for the Kansas Department of Transportation and also worked at the John Deere Dealership doing equipment assembly and delivery. He was transferred to Scott City 1972 by KDOT and also worked at Scotty’s Welding. He was a volunteer fireman at Dighton and Scott City. In 1974 DOT moved him to Garden City where he stayed until retiring in 1988. After retiring he was a greeter at Wal-Mart for 10 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Garden City. George enjoyed welding sunflowers, cactus and yard art. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, Son- Arlin Powell & 2 Brothers- Wayne Powell and Don Powell.

Survivors include his Son- Ralph Powell of Garden City, Daughter- Faylene Leal of Garden City, 2 Brothers- Thomas Powell of Fort Scott and Joseph Powell of Texas, 2 Sisters- Mary Estenson of Americus, Kansas and Anna Mae Smith of Fort Scott, 8 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Hageman officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
