Obituary for Ysidro D. Villarreal Jr.

Ysidro D. Villarreal, Jr., 59, of Dallas, Texas passed away on July 31, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Garnand Funeral Home in garden City.
Ysidro, who commonly went by JR, was born in Garden City, Kansas on December 21, 1959, son of the late Ysidro and Petra Villarreal. He graduated from Garden City Senior High School and continued on to receive an Associate’s degree from Garden City Community College and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Dallas.
JR married Debra Hawk on December 27, 1980. JR and Debra have two children. Jessica is a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design and resides in Seattle, Washington. Jeremy is a sophomore at University of Miami in Miami, Florida.
JR worked as a quality control director. He had a wide variety of hobbies and interests. Before his knees failed him, JR ran multiple marathons and was a state ranked amateur tennis player. JR collected comic books, with Hulk, Spiderman and Batman being his favorites. Given his extensive knowledge of Marvel comics, he was always able to spot the mistakes in any Marvel movie. JR enjoyed photography and took thousands of pictures to record not only his travels but also the people he met in Dallas. JR loved music and was proud of having introduced both of his children to classic rock.
JR is survived by his spouse, Debra; children, Jessica and Jeremy; his brother, Cesar Villarreal; his sister, Sophia (Villarreal) Gunter; his niece, Celyn (Villarreal) Hurtado; his nephew, Sean Villarreal; and other family and friends. His beloved pomeranians, Cuddles and Grace, and his African grey parrot, Elvis, also survive him. JR was predeceased by a brother, Hilary Villarreal, and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Bryan’s House, 3610 Pipestone Road, Dallas, Texas 75212, which provides support to underprivileged children with medical needs and their families.
