Obituary for George Harrison Fox

George Harrison Fox, long time resident of Syracuse, Kansas, passed away at age 85 on September 22, 2018 in St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City, Kansas. George was born at home near Eureka, Kansas on April 1, 1933, son of Harry and Esther Fox. George graduated from Severy High School, Severy, Kansas in 1950 and attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas where he received his B.S. degree in Animal Husbandry in 1954. George proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957 He married his college sweetheart and love of his life, Lola Payne, February 5, 1956 in Syracuse, Kansas. They celebrated 62 ½ wonderful years before Jesus called him Home.
George is also survived by his four children, Kevin (Elizabeth) of Syracuse, KS, Romalyn (Mark) Trewitt of Gordonville, TX, Ronald of Syracuse, KS and Cindy (Dennis) Rodenbaugh of Windsor, CO; ten grandchildren, Jessica Blake, Justin (Elizabeth) Trewitt, Andrew Fox, Jordan Trewitt, Blake Rodenbaugh, Jenna Rodenbaugh, Hannah Fox, Jaden Rodenbaugh, Isaac Fox and Lexie Rodenbaugh. And three great-grandsons. Siblings, Robert (Donna) Fox of Wichita, KS and Carol Meyers of Severy, KS.
George’s oldest brother Vernon Fox, passed away the next day on September 23, 2018. George was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Lowell Fox.
George was still farming up until days before his passing. Farming was his lifelong passion, along with his wife, kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Throughout his life George was able to serve on many boards including, Hamilton County Extension, Hamilton County Fair Board, Hamilton County Farm Bureau, Soil Conservation District, Groundwater Management, Farm Management Association and Syracuse Co-op. He and Lola also took part in several other business ventures including a farrow to finish hog farm facility, corn seed dealership, a fertilizer business as well as a feed yard and dairy. In 1988, he and Lola received the distinction of Master Farmer Master Homemaker, through which they met many of their closest and dearest friends. He was also an active member of the Syracuse Wesleyan Church family.
George and Lola enjoyed traveling all over the country visiting friends and family. They hardly missed a special event or celebration honoring any of their many extended family members and friends. They spent the last several winters in South Texas, where they have enjoyed making many dear friends through their time fishing, exercising, going to coffee, shuffle boarding, playing cards and just living life together.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held for George at the Syracuse Wesleyan Church, Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 2:00 pm MDT.
