Obituary for Ronald Lee Pettz

Ronald Lee Pettz, 77, died Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at The Cottages in Garden City. He was born January 28, 1941 in Garden City, Kansas the son of Hollis P. & Rose B. (Jacob) Pettz.
Ronald has lived his entire life in Finney County and Kearny County, Kansas. He attended Holcomb schools and graduated from Holcomb High School in 1959. He worked as a farmer and rancher in Finney, Kearny, and Logan Counties. Ronald enjoyed working with cattle, fishing, traveling, watching sports, woodworking, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church of Deerfield, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the Kansas Livestock Association, the Angus Association, and served on the Co-op Board of Directors and the Deerfield School Board.
On October 3, 1959, he married Peggy Sue Small in Garden City, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include four children Brenda (Doug) Harder of Garden City, Jeffrey Pettz of Minden, Nebraska, Rhonda (Wade) Kraft of Kearney, Missouri, & Christopher Pettz of Deerfield, Kansas; a brother Hollis (Merlene) Pettz of Kearney, Missouri; a sister Sharon (Howard) Braun of Garden City; twelve grandchildren Catherine (Len) Fick, Russell Harder, Carolyn (Josh) Weist, Anthony Pettz, Julia (Brandon) Leonard, Rebecca (John) Larson, Monica (Joe) Jasper, Nicole (Jesse) Ragland, Jennifer (Levi) Sperry, Danielle (Matt) Morgante, James Pettz, & Amber Pettz; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Ronald is preceded in death by his parents; a sister Theresa Whitworth; and a granddaughter Candace Kraft.
A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin, Kansas. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018 also at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Tran as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, Kansas. Friends may call from Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, Kansas. The family suggests memorials given to St. Catherine hospice in care of the funeral home.
