Garden City- Maria “ Mary” Margaret Whatley, 71, died on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born on February 20, 1948 at LaJunta, Colorado the daughter of Ignacio & Blanche (Palacio) Jimenez. She married Floyd F. Whatley on July 3, 1965 at Garden City.
Mary moved with her family to Deerfield in 1957 and Garden City in 1963. She attended Holcomb schools. She worked at various jobs when she was younger but was a homemaker and caretaker for her family. She was a member of St Mary Catholic Church, Life Member of V.F.W. Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and the Eagles Lodge. She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting, embroidery, cooking, trips to the casino, bowling, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, WWE wrestling and her beloved animals. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Daughter- Karen Whatley & Brother- Joseph Jimenez.
She is survived by her husband- Floyd Whatley of the home, 5 children- Rose Ann (Calvin) Kopp of Garden City, David (Theresa) Whatley of Deerfield, Floyd Whatley, Jr. of Garden City, Jessica (Samuel) Fonseca of Garden City and Yolanda (Dallas) Scisney of Deerfield, Brother- Raymond Jimenez of Colorado Springs, Colorado, 2 Sisters- Carrolina Vigil and Jessie Munoz both of Garden City, 11 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren.
Vigil service will be at 7:00 PM Wednesday and Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Thursday both at St Mary Catholic Church with Rev Charles Seiwert as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Mary Whatley Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
