Obituary for Roberta F. "Birdie" McGrew

Roberta F. “Birdie” McGrew, 81, died Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. She was born July 19, 1937 in Garden City, Kansas the daughter of Octave Joseph & Mary Ann (Luttrell) LeFort.

Roberta has been a lifetime resident of Garden City. She attended Garden City schools and graduated from Garden City High School. She worked as a cook at El Rancho Café for 14 years. Roberta later worked at Dillons for 18 years where she retired in 1999. She was a member of Bible Christian Church of Garden City and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On December 19, 1954, she married George D. McGrew in Garden City. He survives. Other survivors include two children Liz Anderson of Holcomb, Kansas and George (Inez) McGrew of Tuttle, Oklahoma; a brother Paul “Butch” LeFort of Windsor, Colorado; a sister Ramona Prater of Muskogee, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. Roberta is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Mary Lou Thelander and Delores Morris.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Rev. Rita Stockton officiating. Burial will follow at the Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, Kansas. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to the Roberta McGrew Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
